Back in the early days of the commercial internet era, when specialists in SEO really could “trick” the search engines into giving particular websites a results boost, one of the tricks of the trade was executing a “linking strategy.” Googleand other search engines gave websites higher marks if lots of other websites were linking to pages on that website. In those days (a whopping five years ago!) this worked, even if the links to your site had been asked for, or created out of nothing by the SEO master you hired.
Post-Penguin, post-Panda, Google and Bing have turned the tables on linking strategies: Any sites that link to your site that don’t have any relevance to your content now detract from your organic search ranking.
The upshot: If your SEO guy or gal is still pursuing “links” regardless of quality, it is time to fire them. Here is the new rule: ajmalseotips.blogspot.com
