The Internet has become the #1 source for information in the U.S., and for most people, it begins with a “search.” The single most effective and efficient thing one can do to drive traffic to a website is undertake a variety of efforts, both on a website and more importantly off of the site, to make sure the search engines rank that website high within their search results. This is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the following plan outlines ways to optimize a website in hopes of maximizing traffic.

A web directory is not a search engine , and does not display lists of web pages based on keywords, instead it lists web sites by category and subcategory. The categorization is usually based on the whole web site, rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are often limited to inclusion in only one or two categories. Web directories often allow site owners to directly submit their site for inclusion, and have editors review submissions for fitness. Some top directories allow paid inclusion only while thousands of others are free. The overall rank of a directory in the eyes of the major Search Engines is of paramount importance for SEO.
