On Page/Off Page Google SEO Guidelines for Webmasters to Achieve Top Rankings

Following are some SEO guideline from Google to help webmasters to achieve higher search engine rankings: 
  • Make site navigation structure with a clear hierarchy.
  • Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link from pages within the website.
  • Don’t put huge number of links in the content. Generally we can put three links in a web page content. But if you have huge content (500+) then you can add more links. Also don’t put link to the same page from content more than once.
  • Create a useful, information-rich content that clearly and accurately describe your site. (product, services, information etc)
  • Include keywords in your content that users would be looking for, and make sure that your site actually includes those keywords words within it but with fair amount of keyword density. (Generally 3% to 10%)
  • Use text instead of images to display important names, terms or links (anchor text). If you must have to use images, then put the "ALT" attribute to include a few words of descriptive text.
  • Remove broken links, if present in your site. Create 404 Error page.
  • Make web pages primarily for users not for the search engines.
  • Avoid links to web spam or "bad neighborhoods" for your website, as your own ranking will get affected due to those spam links.
  • Don't use unauthorized computer programs or tools to submit web pages, check rankings etc. Such tools violate Google’s Terms of Service. 
  • Avoid hidden text or hidden links.
  • Don't use cloaking or sneaky redirects.
  • Don't send automated queries to Google.
  • Don't load pages with irrelevant keywords, links and content.
  • Don't create multiple pages, sub-domains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
  • Don't create pages with malicious behavior such as phishing or installing viruses, trojans or other malware.
  • Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.
  • If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value.
  • Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.
  • Create unique, accurate and descriptive page “titles” for each page.
  • Make use of the "description" meta tag by using summary defining each page.
  • Improve the structure of your URLs and make keyword rich URL.
  • Put an HTML site map page on your site, and use an XML Sitemap file.
  • Use heading tags appropriately
  • If you run a business, adding its information to Google Places will help you reach customers on Google Maps and web search.
  • Submit directories in relevant deep category which suits your website more. Try to choose directories with unique IP addresses and high PR.
  • Submit unique article content in High PR article sites having unique IP addresses in relevant categories.
  • Submit Press Releases in high PR News sites with unique IP addresses in relevant categories.
  • Create Blogs for your organization and post unique informative content. Promote your blog in blog promotion sites and submit RSS feed in high PR RSS submission sites.
  • Bookmark your web pages in social bookmarking sites and share with your friends. It helps to increase the crawling of your site.
  • Create Social Media profiles for your company to share information with your customers. Engage with your customers through social media.
