SEO Tools – My picks
Posted on May 6, 2012
I’m not a very active tool user when it comes to SEO, this is not because I haven’t tried them but because I’m very picky when it comes to SEO tools and use only the best. However there are a few great tools that I use often and I’d like to share them with you.Best Statistics tools
SEOlytics
If you haven’t tried SEOlytics yet it’s time that you do so. I use it all the time and I’ve even used it to research blog posts on this blog. SEOlytics will give you information on about 1.000.000 different keywords in the US (they track Germany, Austria and Sweden as well) and they’ll give you data on everyone in the results. As an added bonus you can also get peoples PPC-campaigns sorted and ready to download.- Give it a try, they have a free trial.
Visual Website Optimizer
Ok, it’s not really a statistics or even an SEO tool. It’s a tool for A/B split testing but I use it in my SEO as well. One good use for the SEO is that you can learn what your visitors are actually looking for and user intent is of course something very important in SEO. It’s more or less the same as Googles tool but a lot easier to use and with a smarter interface.- Give it a try, they have a free trial too.
Best On Site Optimization Tools
Pineberry SEO Analysis Tool
Pineberry built a tool for testing and rating a page a few years ago and it’s still the best tool out there for this. It will tell you what you need to improve and rate the importance of all the changes with a score. It’s fast and simple to use even for the most novice SEO beginners. If you’re a real beginner I’d like to point out that there is more to SEO than On Page, this tool will give you a lot of good pointers on that but there are other aspects you’re missing.- Try it, it’s completely free.
Screaming Frog
Screaming Frog is an excellent tool for spidering your site and find everything, I mean everything. It will crawl your site and sort everything and export it so you can find, compare and analyze.- They have a free version.
Link Tools
When it comes to tools for finding links and looking at the link graph there used to be one that domninated completely and that was Site Explorer from Yahoo. They terminated Site Explorer some time ago and nowadays there are two big players. SEOmoz Open Site Explorer and Majestic SEO. I prefer Majestic here and if you want to read a complete comparison take a look at my article: Open Site Explorer or Majestic SEO.
Update: Last week Bing relaunched Site Explorer within Bing Webmaster Tools. This is good news and it comes with more good news as well. Bing actually remade their tools completely making them much more SEO-friendly. Let me just give you an example: You can get alerts if any site you link to gets hacked (linking to bad neighbourhoods will drop you in search). Read more about Bing Webmaster Tools.
